Unfortunately, many people believe that BPM should be located in an organization’s IT division-and inevitably this is where the problems arise.
Any BPM initiative that is led by IT is doomed to failure
In terms of where a BPM team should be located, the consensus is that it should be placed in direct line to Chief Operations Officer (COO).…BPM should ideally sit under the COO, because he or she is usually responsible for running the core businesses of the organization.
By placing BPM in the line of the COO, the team will also have a chief sponsor as well as feel as though they’re part of running the business. Experience shows that staff from external divisions (such as IT) tends to be treated as outsiders and are afforded less priority when sent requests for work or attend meetings.
